I have been collecting ceramic pots for my plants, trying to get rid of all the plastic ones, but I wanted to show them off a bit. When I was growing up my mom always had a few macrame hangers in the house and she usually made them herself. I remember some of the macrame books my mom had, the projects were a bit outrageous with all the frizzing of the cord and such but a simple macrame is very pretty. I know they went out of style but it seems that macrame is coming back and I really wanted to make my own. It was so easy. If you think it is too hard, think again. I encourage you to try it!
I found basic instructions for the knots and hanger online in a PDF from NDSU- 4-H extension and I was able to make it within an hour. The pdf is no longer available, but I have a video to show you how to make the knots that I used to make this plant hanger here.
What I like is I can make it my own with beads or different knots.
My mom doesn’t have any macrame plant hangers anymore so I made her one for Mother’s Day, although it was a few days late. She loved it! I made it with black nylon cord and white beads. I also made it shorter for her to put in her kitchen window. I have a couple more to make. I will update when they are done.
