  1. Combine sugar and milk; bring to boil, constantly stirring.
  2. Continue boiling, without stirring, until small amount of mixture forms a soft ball in cold water (234 degrees F).
  3. Add butter and vanilla.
  4. Cool to lukewarm (110 degrees F). Then add peanut butter. Beat until mixture begins to thicken and loses its gloss.
  5. At once stir in chocolate chips; turn into greased pan, 8×4 inches, cool and cut. Makes 18 pieces.
Recipe Notes

While I was boiling the milk I realized I was actually making my own sweetened condensed milk. I sampled it and it was delicious. (better than the canned stuff)  I used an 8X8 pan so the pieces were thin but that was okay because it is rich.
