Belle and Wendy costumes

I sew, but I am not great at it and I almost always use a pattern to sew with. This year I went without a pattern and made up my two youngest daughters’ costumes from absolute scratch. They weren’t perfect by any means but the girls loved them and they got a few compliments while we were out trick or treating last night.

As a fan of Project Runway I had Tim Gunn’s voice in the back of my head the whole time saying “make it work”. It was difficult getting the fit. I have a new appreciation for the designers on that show because I had to re-cut the tops of both costumes to fit my girls.

Next year I hope to make a costume for myself and my husband besides our two youngest. I had so much fun making them and loved the results even though there were a few mistakes that were glaring to me, maybe not to anyone else.
