DIY Blog Challenge-Summer Festival Crochet Bag
DIY Blog Challenge-Summer Festival
I am finally back from what felt like the longest move ever and I have a new project along with all of the other wonderful bloggers participating in the DIY Blog Challenge. This month’s theme was Summer Festival. I crocheted a slouchy mesh bag for use at a festival or farmer’s market. It is perfect for stuffing all sorts of goodies in!
Materials:
Sugar N’ Cream Yarn in Denim- 2 skeins (or your favorite cotton yarn)
Sugar N’ Cream Yarn in Flame- 2 skeins (or your favorite cotton yarn)
Crochet hook- size G
Yarn needle
Scissors
Abbreviations
ch=chain
sc=single crochet
sl st=slip stitch
dc=double crochet
Using the denim colored yarn, make a magic ring. If you have never made one or need a refresher, you can check out my video how-to .
- Magic ring-ch.1, 6 sc, sl st to beginning ch.
- 2 sc in each sc=12 sl st to beginning
- 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, repeat to end, sl st to beginning
- 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next 2 st, repeat to end, sl st to beginning
- 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, repeat to end, sl st to beginning
- 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next 2 st, repeat to end, sl st to beginning
- Sc around, sl st to beginning
- 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, repeat to end, sl st to beginning
- Sc around, sl st to beginning
- Sc around, sl st to beginning
Continue sc around and sl st to the beginning until it is 10 inches in diameter, mine was 19 rounds total. Join the other color of yarn to begin the body of the bag with a round of double crochet.
For the mesh
- Skip 1st stitch and slip stitch in the next stitch, *ch 3, skip st, sl st, repeat from* to end, ch3
- Slip stitch into the 1st group of ch 3 stitches, *ch3, sl st into next group of ch3 stitches, repeat from* to end
Repeat those two rounds until you have the bag as big as you would like it. I made mine 14 inches long.
Join the denim colored yarn when you have your bag to the length you want and double crochet around for 3 rows. To make the handles, dc 8, ch 2, and turn, skip the two chains and dc into the last dc, dc across, ch 2 and turn. Repeat that until the handle is as long as you would like it. I made my handles 40 rows long. Then attach the handles with a yarn needle where you would like them placed. Weave in all your ends and you have a nice bag to tote around fresh veggies and fruit or whatever you would like to use your bag for. I can’t wait to use it!
If you have any questions about the pattern feel free to ask. I am relatively new at writing patterns so if anything is unclear please let me know.
Here is a downloadable pdf of the pattern.

This is beautiful! I must learn to crochet soon!
I love a bag that’s big enough to carry everything in! I need to give crochet a try!

A great pattern, even I can follow this pattern:) perfect for beginners, I love a project where you get a great result:)
I love the look of crochet but have little patience. I’m pretty sure I have 5 projects in the “started” phase. This is beautiful. I may have to give this another try. 🙂
This is beautiful. I would love to be able to crochet, I will try to learn this year and hopefully will be able to make this bag 🙂

Gorgeous bag! I wish I could crochet. I did try when I was younger but I must admit I was not very good at it! #DIYblogchallenge
Everyone’s craftiness is so impressive. I am sure that you must motivate one another greatly.
I don’t crochet but this makes me want to….what a beautiful bag.
Thanks for sharing at Waste Not Wednesday.
