Christmas Countdown Tree
I have been wanting to make a Christmas countdown calendar for my kids for a while. My kids always want the ones from the store with the chocolates behind the little cardboard doors each year. I love to get them also because I used to get them in Germany when I lived there with my parents. They are a nice memory but somehow they don’t seem as nice as they used to be so I wanted something else.
I’ve seen the pallet trees on Pinterest and also several patterns for small crocheted stockings this year. What could be better than putting those two elements together?
I enlisted my sweet husband to cut the wood for me and put the tree together. Not too hard of a task.
Then I painted it with a moss green chalk paint.
I also wanted it to look like it had snow on it. I lightly drew a line and painted on snow.
Once the paint dried, my husband drilled small pilot holes for the cup hooks. This year we are just propping it up against the wall because we don’t want to put any more holes in the wall before we move out next year. But in the future, we will be hanging it up and attaching a hanger to the back.
I used this pattern with a few modifications to make the stockings. There are eight variations of the stockings with changing colors and the heel, toe, and top band. I made 24 stockings and they hold about four pieces of candy. Because my girls are older I didn’t number them but I might later on. There are so many different ways to personalize this. I will update if I add to it. The bow is wired on and next year I plan on putting a star on top instead but again I can change that each year to whatever I feel like.
My two youngest are loving it since I filled the stockings with some of their favorite candies.
I will be linking up to these parties.
Very cute! I like how you did the “snow”. Thanks for sharing your project with us at The Crafty Corner 🙂
Thank you, Antonella!
This is such an adorable idea. And it’s the details that make it special. The snow on the wood, and the pretty little mittens.
Thank you, Mary! 🙂
